Saas Fee, Switzerland: Adventures of the Reluctant Skier

To maintain the magical allure of the place, the city required 40% of each house to be made of wood. There are steep gorges and high mountainsides on the road to this village. And when you reach the Saas Fee ski resort, you immediately observe one amazing thing – there are no cars. The private vehicles that were brought in by visitors are safely parked at the village entrance. There is also one other thing that you immediately learn, the Saas Fee is one of the most popular world’s favorite snowboarding slopes. But you are not here for snowboarding. You are open to the idea of learning to ski but you are quite sure that you will have your behind sore sooner than when you can figure out how to balance the skis.

Your friend appeared ecstatic when you arrived. He loved the snow, which is strange because he grew up in a city that doesn’t have true winters. He explained that at this moment, he is suffering from SDS or snow deprivation syndrome. After rolling your eyes, you asked him if there are other things to do besides skiing. Saas Fee is a celebrated destination for winter holidays, he claimed. Of course, there are many other things to do, such as ice climbing, canyon climbing, and snowshoe trekking. You hoped that he would say something that is not related to ice. But this is a ski resort after all. You might as well take care of the logistics and accommodations.

The Saas Fee ski resort is well equipped to respond to the needs of all its visitors and skiers. There are more than 20 lifts that included cable cars, gondolas, chairlifts, draglifts, and funicular railway. Solo skiers, pairs, and groups of skiers have a wide choice of lifts that will take them to the starting points of the ski trails. You had second thoughts about skiing when you learned that the vertical drop of the ski run is almost 6,000 feet. This fact simply thrilled your friend. Seeing your face, he immediately assured you that both of you will stick to the green circle – the easiest type of slopes for alpine skiing.

The accommodations at Saas Fee are varied. There are luxurious five-star hotels and affordable one-star hotels. There are also holiday apartments that are managed by local families. And then, for the more adventurous travelers, there are numerous well-kept camping sites. Beyond the Saas Valley, there are more hotels and apartments. But you preferred staying in a hotel that is as high as possible because you look forward to dining in the highest revolving restaurant and watching the glittering diamond-like lights from the distant city of Milan.

The Saas Fee has other tourist attractions aside from the spectacular peaks, glaciers, and snow slopes. It also has the Allalin Ice Pavilion. Instead of skiing above the snow, the visitors will be amazed by the glaciers. There is also the Alpin Gorge that challenged visitors to conquer their fear of heights, hold on to the rope route, and cross the bridge. There is also the Adventure Park for those who love climbing. And there is the Feeblitz Toboggan Run. For you, one of the most attractive features is the 300 kilometers of themed walking paths. You wish to encounter the adorable marmots. Are you ready to ski? Your friend asked. You sighed and nodded your head.
